SOMETHING ABOUT US

  • We (Michael & Michelle Beckmann, on the right of the photo) acquired the listed half-timbered house in 2014 in a very run-down condition and restored it over many years with a lot of determination, patience and hard work.

  • Michelle is English, Michael is German, we've been together since over 25 years and share our lives between Monschau and East Sussex in England.

  • Our grown up daughter Annabelle lives in England.

  • We had already restored the house next door Eschbachstrasse 8 in 2004-2007, also operated two holiday apartments there and rented out a gallery.

  • We think that half-timbered houses are something very special, have a special charm and we do our very best to preserve these unique historical buildings for future generations.

  • We love to stroll in the beautiful nature around Monschau with our Cocker Bluebelle.

  • One further apartment on the ground floor is currently still under construction.

A BRIEF INSIGHT

The house was uninhabited for many decades, now it has finally come to life again! After years of hard work, the first three apartments are ready.

During the restoration, we placed great importance on the preservation of the historical building substance (oak, slate, clay) and used natural building materials as far as possible (2nd hand oak beams, clay panels, clay plaster, lime plaster, wood fibre insulation panels, hemp insulation and countless bags of recycled clay from the building). All of this gives the apartments warmth and a pleasantly balanced room climate.

A major challenge was to transfer the current building regulations, especially fire regulations, to a 250-year-old half-timbered house in order to obtain the necessary permits.
